The Wall to Open New Venue

New Southern Venue for The Wall

The Wall has been a home for independant bands, artists and djs, providing a good venue for old and new to be heard, with the likes of Adam Freeland, Skid Row and Tizzy Bac gracing it's walls.  It has long been rumored that the longest standing livehouse in Taipei would be stretching it's wings, so we decided to quell the rumours and go to the source.  Waakao caught up with the manager/key man for the Wall Orbis Fu to ask him about some of the past and present plans for the Wall.

How did the Wall in Taipei start and how long has it been running, who were the founders?

The Wall has been open since November of 2003, so 6 years and running.  Poki, Freddy, Jimi, got together and made this dream come true together
I came in after 2005 and became key runner.

What was the idea behind the Wall at the beginning?  To give a place for indie rock?  And how has that idea changed over the years?

The idea was to give a place for indie rock, especially for local bands and international indie music.  Our goal has always been very clear and we all teamed up with the same idea in mind so it won't and hasn't changed.

Why did The Wall decide to open a new venue in Kaoshiung?

It's a big step for us and for indie music in Taiwan to step out of Taipei city.  We will be able to have two stops for local or international acts and Kaohsiung city is very beautiful, the citizens there are very energetic and passionate and lots of our staff are from Kaohsiung, so it's also key for us.

How similar will it be to the one in Taipei? Is there going to be anything new or different in the Kaoshiung Wall?

The environment will be totally different but the indie spirit will be the same, the shows will be still great like Taipei.  The venue is outdoor, so it's very comfortable.  We can take advantage of the nice weather in Kaohsiung city at the new venue.  We will also concentrate on promoting bands from southern cities which will in turn make the Taipei scene more fun.

The new venue is due to open in this coming April.  Waakao will have more closer to it's opening.
