A Wall Lords Recap
Written by Skunk Thursday, 31 December 2009 01:09

Wall Lords is a graffiti competition that has been put together by a few motivated writers to promote graffiti throughout Asia.
Currently, the event is represented in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. A qualifying stage takes place in each country that includes a theme production, throw-up and hand-style round.
I write "Skunk" and I live in Taiwan. In 2010, Dabs, Phate, Wims and myself will be repping the island in Shanghai. A couple weeks before the event, we got our new crew (Downtown Taipei Posse) and painted a Christmas production to get a feel for painting with one-another (What are everyone's strengths and weaknesses?)
The way it works is, the Wall Lords people email you and tell you the
theme of the production round a few days in advance and you try to plan
it out with your crew and come up with something that'll come-off nice.
The theme this year was: "Future". So we scratched our heads and
thought, Global Warming?, Flash Gordon? Planet of the Apes? ...Nah. How
about just a few good gags done in the Futurama style? Yeah, that could
be pretty fresh!"
We rolled up on the spot and it was actually a really cool scene. The
whole underground parking lot was lit with black lights and there were
kids tagging and painting every flat surface available, even the floor.
There were also DJs, MCs and a ton of single-gear bikers and kids on
skateboards ...oh and all the beer was free... It sort of reminded me
of that part in Ninja Turtles Part 1 where all those kids are getting
wild at that footclan lair. Doing all the bad shit they knew they
weren't supposed to do. Good lookin'!

Anyways... we ended up winning and we got our picture taken with this over-sized novelty plane ticket like at the end of Wheel of Fortune. It was pretty dope.

Big Thanks to the organizers and everyone who showed up to the jam! It was a fun night. Can't wait for Shanghai! GYEAAH!
